About Butlin Hearing
Butlin Hearing started in 2006 by Laurie Butlin and is now owned and run by his children, brother and sister team, Mark Butlin and Claire Butlin-Buys.
Pretoria university trained, and members of the Health Professions Council of South Africa, we offer specialised hearing aid fittings of the Top 4 international hearing aid brands with personalised long term follow up care.
WHAT WE DO
A Hearing Aid Acoustician is qualified in testing and evaluating a person’s hearing, fitting hearing aids, adjusting hearing aids, making ear moulds and supplying assistive listening devices and hearing aid batteries.
We look forward to meeting you at one of our many consulting rooms, where we will gladly offer advice and answer any questions you may have relating to hearing loss and hearing instruments. We are also more than happy to provide you with quotes on suitable hearing devices.

Claire Butlin-Buys
Qualified Hearing Aid Acoustician
Claire Butlin-Buys graduated from Unisa in 2006 with a BCom degree. Claire has 15 years experience in business management. In 2015 Claire completed her Advanced Diploma in Hearing Aid Acoustics at the University of Pretoria, and in June 2016 began practicing as a Hearing Aid Acoustician with Butlin Hearing.
Claire is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and is a member of SASLHA (South African Speech, Language and Hearing Association), as well as SHAA (Society of Hearing Aid Acousticians of SA).

Mark Butlin
Qualified Hearing Aid Acoustician
Mark Butlin studied Administration and Economics at UKZN. Mark then spent 20 years in the Service and Retail environment. In 2014 Mark qualified as an Audiometrician, through Johannesburg University, then in 2016 completed the Advanced Diploma in Hearing Aid Acoustics. Mark joined the Butlin Hearing Practice in 2017.
Mark is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Laurie Butlin
Founder and Consultant
Laurie Butlin qualified as a Pharmacist at Rhodes University in 1973, and practiced as a Pharmacist in Howick until 2005. Laurie completed his Advanced Diploma in Hearing Aid Acoustics at the University of Pretoria in 2005, and set up practice as a Hearing Aid Acoustician in Howick in 2006. In 2007 Laurie opened up branches in Pietermaritzburg (Wembley Pharmacy), Hilton (Hilton Pharmacy) and Estcourt (Medical Hall Pharmacy).
